FORTIFIED ROOFS IN THE WILMINGTON, NC AREA

The Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) created the Fortified Roof program to establish rigorous standards to protect roofs against the harsh weather elements from hurricanes and other severe storms. Years of research went into this program. A Fortified Roof sets itself apart in three ways:

1. Stronger Edges: Many roof issues are caused by wind getting beneath the roof edge, causing it to tear away from the home. Fortified Roofs are constructed using stronger materials and better installation methods, such as a wider drip edge and fully-adhered starter strip, reducing the odds of the roof tearing away.
2. Sealed Roof Deck: When wind causes the roofing shingles or metal to break away, the wood underneath is exposed. As a result, water can come through the gaps and into the home. With Fortified Roofs, the decks are tightly sealed to prevent such issues.
3. Better Attachment: Instead of using standard nails, Fortified Roofs use ring-shank nails in an enhanced pattern. Ring-shank nails offer twice the strength of regular nails. This helps keep the roof deck from slipping or detaching during foul weather.
